ESG – Understanding the importance and impact of these non-financial factors in identifying risks, growth opportunities and future proofing your business. The session will cover ESG (in particular Sustainability) from two perspectives: Advisory and ‘In Business’. A combination of technical and practical knowledge from leading experts in the Irish market.
Janice Daly, Director of Sustainable Finance, and Investment at Grant Thornton will present on sustainable finance; what it is, how it works, and how best to implement policies for your business. During the second half of the Leinster session, we will hear from experts from two different industries: Lorcan O’Connor (CEO of CIE) and Des Ferris (Director of Sustainability programme at Keelings). Our speakers will both discuss a case study on the implementation of ESG practices within their company.

Janice Daly CFA – Director Sustainable Finance and Investment, Financial Services Advisory, Grant Thornton
Janice is a senior Sustainable Finance specialist with 15 years of financial markets experience, who joined Grant Thornton in 2022 to lead on Sustainable Finance and Investment. Prior to joining the firm, Janice developed and ran a well-respected and successful multi-billion EUR Green Bond programme and led on the integration of Climate Risk in a ECB-regulated financial institution. Over her career, Janice has held senior roles across Sustainable Finance, Climate Action and Treasury, she is Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder and holds First Class Masters’ Degrees from UCD in both Financial Services and Sustainable Development. She has undertaken the Chartered Bankers’ Green Finance Certificate, the CFA Institute Certification in ESG investing, CFA UK Certification in Climate Investing and is the Chair of the CFA Ireland ESG Committee.
Lorcan O’Connor, CEO of CIE
Lorcan O’Connor is Group CEO of Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ), Ireland’s largest public transport provider with annual customer journeys exceeding 275m (pre Covid), annual revenue exceeding €1.4bn and over 11,000 employees.
The CIÉ Group includes Irish Rail, Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, CIÉ Tours and Rosslare Europort.
Lorcan has introduced a Group wide Sustainability Strategy encompassing the transition to zero emission vehicles, green procurement, circular economy, transit orientated developments and the adoption of TCFD. The Strategy extends to supporting offshore wind farms and alternative fuels such as Green Hydrogen. Capital Investment projects across the Group currently exceed €5Bn. The recently launched Heuston Masterplan has a gross development value of >€1Bn.
Previously, Lorcan was the CEO of the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI) for seven years. He established the ISI as an independent statutory body responsible for the administration of bankruptcies and newly introduced alternatives to bankruptcy. It also regulates personal insolvency practitioners.
For 15 years, Lorcan was Director in Deloitte Restructuring Services. Throughout these years, he gained extensive experience advising companies in financial distress and advising lending institutions in relation to underperforming loans, as well as leading many formal insolvency assignments including Waterford Wedgwood.
Lorcan also had a two-year secondment as Financial Adviser in the Department of Transport. While sitting on the Department’s Management Board, he worked on a wide range of transport assignments, including the Aer Lingus IPO.
Des Ferris, Director of Sustainability Programme at Keelings
With 30 years’ experience in the food industry in both Technical Director & Managing Director roles, Des is currently Keelings’ Technical & Facilities Director and holds responsibility for product quality, safety & legality and is the lead Director for Keelings Sustainability programme.
